The unfortunate event occurred around 11:30 am, sparking panic among local residents who quickly gathered at the scene.
As reported by Shivsharan Sah, the SHO of Benipatti police station, a group of children from the village had gone for a swim when three of them ventured into deeper waters and began to struggle.
A vigilant teacher from a nearby school, along with local villagers, noticed the alarming situation, raised the alarm, and jumped into the pond to rescue the children. Thanks to their swift actions, all three were retrieved.
Regrettably, two of the boys were found unconscious, while the third was reported stable.
They were immediately transported to Benipatti Sub-Divisional Hospital in an auto-rickshaw, where medical staff pronounced them dead on arrival.
The deceased were identified as Shivam Mishra (13) and Ayush Mishra (12), sons of Vipin Mishra, a resident of Ward No. 7 in Barri village.
Dr. Vikas Harinandan, a physician at the sub-divisional hospital, confirmed that the children had already succumbed to their injuries prior to reaching the facility.
In response to this tragedy, local administration acted promptly, with BDBDO Maheshwar Pandit arriving at the scene and divers being dispatched to ensure no other children remained in the water.
