Patna, June 18 (NationPress) A heartbreaking incident occurred in Begusarai district on Wednesday when four young individuals tragically drowned in the Budhi Gandak river near Nurullahpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Khodawandpur police station.
As reported by an official, the victims were part of a larger group of eight who were enjoying a bath in the river at the time of the unfortunate event.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the group, unaware of the water's depth, became ensnared in a strong current while attempting to rescue one another.
As chaos erupted, all eight began to struggle, but local villagers were able to save four of them just in time.
Regrettably, four others could not be rescued. Local villagers promptly alerted the SDRF and district police. After several hours of searching, an SDRF team retrieved the bodies from the river.
The deceased have been identified as Nitish Kumar (14), son of Ram Shobhit Das; Abhishek Kumar (18) and Avinash Kumar (19), twin sons of Chandsi Das; and Roshan Kumar (12), son of Kallar Das.
All victims were residents of Nurullahpur village, and the tragic loss has cast a shadow of mourning over the community.
Family members, along with devastated villagers, gathered at the scene as news of the incident spread.
Upon notification, a team from the Khodawandpur police station arrived to secure the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the precise circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
The entire village is enveloped in silence and sorrow, especially since most of the deceased were teenagers, including two brothers.
Local officials have urged families to exercise caution when allowing children and teens to swim in rivers, particularly during the monsoon season when water levels and currents can be unpredictable.
Earlier, on May 18 of this year, three young men drowned in the Ganga river near Malahi Diara in Patna after being swept away by strong currents while bathing.
