Kolkata, Sep 29 (NationPress) In an unbelievable tragedy, a mother has taken the lives of her two young children and subsequently ended her own life in Malda district of West Bengal. This harrowing event unfolded on the very first day of Durga Puja, casting a dark shadow over Old Malda.
According to the authorities, the mother, identified as Rupali Haldar (28), was found to have strangled her 7-year-old son Ayan and her 6-month-old daughter before committing suicide by hanging. Upon notification, police from Malda station arrived at the scene and discovered the three bodies, which were later sent for autopsy.
Reports indicate that Rupali and her husband, Asit Halder, had been residing in Gangarampur at her father's home in the adjacent South Dinajpur district. The couple had reportedly been embroiled in frequent arguments for the past three to four months.
On the night of Shasthi, Asit expressed his desire to take their son to enjoy Durga Puja, but Rupali objected, igniting yet another dispute. Later that night, Rupali and the two children fell asleep in their room, while Asit retired to another. When Rupali had not emerged by 10 am on Monday, family members grew concerned and broke down the door, only to make the tragic discovery of three lifeless bodies.
A senior police officer from Malda stated, "The two children were found on the bed, while Rupali's body was hanging from the ceiling fan. Our team has since recovered the bodies for autopsy. Her husband, Asit Halder, has been taken into custody."
Tarun Haldar, Rupali's father-in-law, spoke to the media, saying, "There was a disagreement between my son and his wife regarding taking my grandson for a walk. Rupali refused to let him take the child. This morning, we are devastated to learn of this tragedy."
