Kolkata, Oct 8 (NationPress) In a deeply disturbing occurrence, a man took his own life by hanging after committing the tragic act of murdering his wife and their young son in Beldanga, located in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal, as reported by the police on Wednesday.
The lifeless bodies of the three individuals, Sanjit Halder (40), his spouse Mousumi Halder (28), and their son Rayan Halder (7), were discovered by Sanjit’s mother on Wednesday morning.
According to the mother’s account to the police, she first encountered her son’s body hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom on Wednesday morning.
In a state of panic, she began to scream. Neighbors hurried to the scene, broke down the bedroom door, and found the bodies of Mousumi and Rayan lying in a pool of blood, both with their throats cut.
The local police were notified immediately. Authorities recovered the bodies and initiated a post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings indicate that Sanjit first murdered his wife and son by slitting their throats on Tuesday night before hanging himself.
Sanjit’s mother shared with the media that there had been ongoing tensions between her son and daughter-in-law for quite some time. “At one point, the tension escalated, and my son even left the house. However, we managed to persuade him to return. Unfortunately, the situation may have worsened to a point where my son felt compelled to take such a drastic action,” she explained.
Sanjit’s sister, Shibani Mondal, stated to reporters that her brother was very caring towards his wife. “Whenever there was any disagreement between his wife and us, he always sided with her. Thus, this act on his part is truly unimaginable,” Shibani remarked.
Neighbors described Sanjit as a gentle and well-mannered individual. “He primarily worked as a contractual mason to support his family. To our knowledge, he had no vices and was never involved in quarrels. While we did hear about some tension between him and his wife, we never anticipated that someone like him could resort to such an extreme measure,” a neighbor commented.
