Adelaide, Oct 27 (NationPress) Travis Head has committed to another season with the Adelaide Strikers, marking his 14th consecutive year in the Big Bash League (BBL).
The 31-year-old has been absent from his local club for the last two seasons due to international duties, but the latter part of this BBL season is shaping up as an ideal preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup, where Head is expected to play a pivotal role for Australia.
Depending on his fitness and workload management following five Ashes Tests, the explosive left-handed batsman may join the Strikers for their final three or four regular season matches and the finals, should they qualify.
Head has proven himself to be one of the most formidable batsmen in international cricket, consistently scoring runs at impressive rates in both franchise and international formats.
Currently, he holds the title of the highest-ranked Australian batter in the T20 International standings, positioned sixth overall.
The left-hander is a significant figure in BBL history, having achieved an unbeaten 53-ball century during a New Year’s Eve match in season 5, which included nine sixes, three of which were hit in the final over. His prowess was also evident last year in the IPL, where he scored a rapid 39-ball century while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“I’m excited to add another year to my contract. Staying in Adelaide was an easy choice. We’ve enjoyed some fantastic seasons with the Strikers, and I look forward to contributing as my availability allows,” said Head.
“Signing on was simple because Adelaide Oval is the finest venue in Australia, and we have exceptional support from the best fans,” he continued.
Head last donned the Strikers jersey in January 2023 but expressed his wish to remain connected with the club despite his increasing international commitments.
His re-signing follows the Strikers securing the contracts of fellow power hitters Chris Lynn, pace bowler Hasan Ali, and dynamic all-rounder Jamie Overton.
Strikers coach Tim Paine emphasized the value of Head’s experience, despite his limited availability.
“We’re delighted to welcome Travis back to the Strikers—not just for his explosive batting but for the energy, leadership, and experience he brings to the team,” Coach Paine remarked.
“We recognize that Trav has a packed international schedule, but we’re eagerly anticipating his return after the Ashes.”
These marquee signings add to the promising trio of Liam Scott, Jason Sangha, and Mackenzie Harvey.
