Tripura's 2026-27 Budget Increases by 5.52% with Key Focus on Health and Rural Growth

Agartala, March 16 (NationPress) On Monday, Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 has seen an increase of approximately 5.52 percent compared to the previous year (2025–26), with significant emphasis on health, rural development, and capital expenditure.
According to the budget documents, the Chief Minister confirmed that there would be no new taxes implemented and highlighted an increase in the allocation for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Saha expressed gratitude to Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy for presenting what he referred to as a pro-people budget during the Assembly session.
The total budget size is set to rise from Rs 32,410 crore in 2025–26 to Rs 34,212.31 crore in 2026–27, demonstrating a growth rate of around 5.52 percent.
“To stimulate the economy, we prioritize capital expenditure, which amounts to Rs 8,945.92 crore, reflecting an increase of 13.19 percent,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further mentioned that a supplementary grant of Rs 4,676 crore has been proposed for approval for the current financial year.
Saha also disclosed that Rs 918 crore has been designated for the TTAADC, which is an increase from Rs 860.28 crore allocated in the previous year.
“This budget does not introduce any new taxes,” he reiterated to the media following the budget presentation.
In terms of sector-specific allocations, the Chief Minister noted that Rs 2,441.50 crore has been set aside for the health sector, marking a significant increase of 25.29 percent from the previous year.
For rural development, Rs 4,094 crore has been allocated, showing a rise of 17.50 percent.
Additionally, Rs 1,985.61 crore has been earmarked for the agriculture sector, which is a 5.31 percent increase, while the education sector will receive Rs 6,439.56 crore, reflecting a growth of 4.43 percent compared to last year.
Saha also introduced several initiatives aimed at enhancing the healthcare infrastructure within the state.
These initiatives include establishing a Critical Care Block at the Dhalai District Hospital, creating trauma care centers in Teliamura, Bishramganj, and Khowai, and developing maternal and child care units at district and sub-divisional hospitals.
Moreover, a new Primary Health Centre (PHC) will be constructed in Gomati district, alongside upgrades to health facilities in 20 PHCs and nine Community Health Centres (CHCs).
The Chief Minister further announced plans for establishing an Ayurvedic Medical College in Gomati district, in addition to homoeopathy medical colleges and the Tripura University of Health Sciences.
Plans are also in place to set up an IT park and implement various other development initiatives across the state.
Additionally, Saha declared a 5 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for government employees and pensioners.
“Previously, we had allocated 36 percent DA and DR, and now an extra 5 percent has been added, bringing the total to 41 percent. This revised amount will take effect from April 1,” he concluded.
