Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday, 31 July declared that the state is keeping pace with India's fastest-growing states, citing a broad sweep of development initiatives under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government spanning infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, technology, and social welfare. His remarks came during a function at the Khowai Town Hall in Khowai district, where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple projects valued at ₹8.9 crore.

Key Developments at Khowai

The event, organised by the Khowai district administration, saw the inauguration of seven projects implemented by departments including the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, Rural Development Department, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, and the Urban Development Department. The Health and Family Welfare Department also distributed eight Smart OPD Kits at the event.

Saha said the projects inaugurated on Thursday would strengthen public services and generate long-term community assets. He noted that projects worth nearly ₹1,500 crore were either inaugurated or had foundation stones laid across Tripura during the last financial year alone.

What the Chief Minister Said

'The government is working with priority for overall development by focusing on road connectivity, drinking water, electricity, agriculture, rural and urban development, information technology and social security. Tripura is moving forward in terms of good governance and administrative reforms and is now competing with the fastest-developing states of the country,' Saha said.

He invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of technology-driven governance and the guiding principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas', stressing that inclusive growth requires lifting marginalised sections alongside mainstream development.

Subsidised Mortuary Vehicle and Social Welfare Push

Among the notable announcements, Saha launched a subsidised mortuary vehicle service aimed at reducing the financial strain on bereaved families. Charges have been fixed at ₹1,000 per trip, with a concessional rate of ₹500 for beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). Families unable to afford even this rate will be supported by the government, he added.

Economic Claims and Northeast Gateway Ambition

Saha claimed that Tripura's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has doubled according to 2025 statistics, and that purchasing power among residents has risen. Improvements in law and order and infrastructure, he argued, have driven this socio-economic momentum. Referencing the Centre's Act East Policy, he positioned Tripura as an emerging gateway for development across the Northeast.

The function was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singha Roy (Datta), MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Khowai Municipal Council Chairperson Debashish Nath Sharma, and other senior officials. As Tripura positions itself for a larger national role, the government's ability to sustain this pace of project delivery and validate its GSDP claims will be closely watched.
