Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday, 31 July inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development works worth nearly ₹179 crore in South Tripura district, asserting that progress is meaningful only when its benefits reach the last person in society. The event was held at the PM Shri Taikarma Class XII School ground in Shantirbazar subdivision.

Key Developments

Saha virtually inaugurated 23 completed development projects worth ₹36.45 crore and laid the foundation stone for 12 upcoming projects estimated at ₹142.64 crore, bringing the total outlay to ₹179.08 crore. The projects span 14 health infrastructure schemes, 11 education-related infrastructure projects, four Public Works Department works, and six tribal welfare initiatives.

The Chief Minister said the projects would particularly benefit residents of the Shantirbazar, Sabroom, and Belonia subdivisions of South Tripura district.

What the Government Said

'The present government is committed to solving people's problems and ensuring inclusive development. We are working in every sector, including education, healthcare, power, drinking water and communication infrastructure. Real development can be achieved only when its benefits reach the last person in society,' Saha said at the public function.

He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government has been implementing a series of development initiatives focused on improving quality of life across the state.

Healthcare and Infrastructure Push

Highlighting the government's healthcare focus, Saha noted that a Critical Care Unit and a trauma centre have already been established at Shantirbazar District Hospital, with plans to increase the hospital's bed count further. He also announced the installation of large-scale solar power panels at Ladhua Tea Garden and the construction of a flood-control dam on the Muhuri River in Belonia to address recurring flooding.

Broader Development Picture

Saha disclosed that the government is spending approximately ₹406 crore on the overall development of South Tripura district. He also cited the recently held Tripura Business Conclave, where around 1,200 industrialists reportedly participated and expressed investment interest across multiple sectors.

'In the past one year, development projects worth nearly ₹1,500 crore have been inaugurated across Tripura. New school buildings and hostels are being constructed, while smart classrooms have been introduced in several schools,' he said.

Welfare Measures and Tribal Focus

The Chief Minister highlighted welfare schemes for girl students, including distribution of bicycles, scooties, and mobile phones, along with free education facilities. He also noted an increase in MBBS seats in the state's medical colleges. Saha stressed that the government is prioritising the educational, healthcare, social, and economic development of tribal communities, invoking the 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas' framework.

The programme was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, and legislators Pramod Reang, Swapna Majumdar, and Mailafru Mog, among other senior officials. With ₹406 crore committed to South Tripura alone and a Business Conclave drawing 1,200 investors, the state government appears to be accelerating its development push ahead of the next electoral cycle.
