Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday, 25 June laid the foundation stone for a new 100-bed Sepahijala District Hospital building and inaugurated round-the-clock emergency and indoor patient services at the Lalsinghmura Primary Health Centre in Sepahijala district, marking a significant push to expand healthcare access across the state. Saha also virtually inaugurated several other development projects spread across the district during the same function.

Key Developments at the Event

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the new Sepahijala District Hospital building, which will have a capacity of 100 beds. Simultaneously, 24/7 Emergency and Indoor Patient Department (IPD) services were launched at the Lalsinghmura Primary Health Centre, extending round-the-clock care to residents of the area. Several other district-level development projects were inaugurated virtually.

Among those present were Sepahijala District Magistrate Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Dutta, Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, and officials from various departments.

Healthcare Infrastructure Expansion Across Tripura

Saha outlined a series of health sector milestones, stating that bed capacity at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital has been raised from 727 to 1,413, while the Gomati District Hospital has seen its bed strength doubled. A cardiac care unit has been established in Ambassa, bringing specialised treatment closer to residents of remote areas.

A 100-bed eye hospital is under construction near ILS Hospital in Agartala, and the government has initiated steps to set up Homeopathy and Ayurvedic Medical Colleges to broaden healthcare education. Telemedicine services have been introduced for rural populations, and trauma care centres have been established in all districts of the state.

Health Scheme Spending and Beneficiary Reach

Saha said that beneficiaries across Tripura are accessing improved medical services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), with an expenditure of approximately ₹300 crore incurred under the scheme. Additionally, residents have availed medical services worth ₹41.74 crore under the state-run Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana.

Economic Standing and NITI Aayog Recognition

The Chief Minister highlighted that Tripura currently ranks second among northeastern states in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income. He added that NITI Aayog has recognised Tripura as a 'Front Runner' state for its performance across developmental indicators and governance initiatives. Saha also cited progress in education, tourism, and information technology as factors drawing investor interest from across the country.

The state government has indicated it will continue expanding healthcare infrastructure alongside connectivity and employment initiatives. The construction of the new Sepahijala District Hospital building and the Agartala eye hospital are among the projects currently in progress, with their completion expected to further widen access to quality medical care across Tripura.
