Agartala, Sep 3 (NationPress) - The ruling BJP in Tripura stated on Wednesday that the law will take its own course following an incident where four youths allegedly threatened to 'chop off the head' of the party's ally, Tipra Motha Party (TMP) legislator Philip Kumar Reang, at the secure MLA Hostel in Agartala.

Rajib Bhattacharjee, the President of Tripura state BJP, indicated that the law would be enforced regarding the incident that transpired on September 1 at the MLA hostel.

“We do not endorse criminal activity, and we are committed to upholding law and order. The government will take action against anyone who violates the law,” Bhattacharjee, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, informed the media.

In response to the seriousness of the situation, Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, West Tripura SP Namit Pathak, and other senior officials visited the MLA Hostel to speak with Reang.

Pathik Dev Varma, son of Telangana Governor and former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, along with three other BJP supporters, allegedly threatened Reang on Monday night.

All four individuals, including Pathik Dev Varma, received bail after surrendering to the New Capital Complex police station on Tuesday evening.

Reang, who represents the Kanchanpur Assembly constituency in North Tripura, has filed an FIR seeking legal action against the accused.

Pathik Dev Varma was specifically named in the FIR.

The MLA Hostel, located in the New Capital Complex, is in proximity to the State Secretariat, the Legislative Assembly, and the Tripura High Court.

Reang reported that the four youths threatened him while he was conversing with others outside his room and claimed they appeared to be intoxicated.

In a Facebook post, he stated: "The New MLA Hostel is not a safe environment for MLAs. I was threatened on Monday around 10 P.M. by unknown persons who were clearly drunk, right outside my room. Who should be held accountable for the lapses in security?"

A six-member TMP delegation, led by Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Brishaketu Debbarma, met with Chief Minister Manik Saha at his civil secretariat office on Tuesday, urging him to ensure the safety of legislators at the MLA hostel.

"The incident at the MLA hostel on Monday night poses a serious risk to all legislators. The Chief Minister has assured us that he will address this matter with the utmost seriousness," the minister stated after the meeting.

Reang labeled the incident as a significant security breach and requested the Chief Minister's immediate attention.

“These four individuals threatened to chop off my head and claimed they would bring 500 people to the MLA hostel next time. They may have come to meet BJP MLA Pramod Reang, who also resides there,” Reang informed the media.

DGP Anurag mentioned there was an altercation between Reang and the four individuals at the MLA hostel on Monday night.

“An investigation is underway to identify the individuals who threatened the MLA. Typically, only guests of MLAs are permitted entry to the hostel, and we are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness,” he stated.

The MLA hostel contains 45 rooms, with 40 allotted to legislators from the BJP, TMP, CPI-M, and Congress.
