Agartala, July 25 (NationPress) The Higher Education Department has suspended two Assistant Professors from government colleges affiliated with Tripura University due to their misconduct and illegal activities, as reported by officials on Friday.
A senior official disclosed that Santanu Majumder, an Assistant Professor at Government Degree College in Kamalpur, located in Tripura's Dhalai district, faced suspension after being caught behaving inappropriately with a female student on campus.
The suspension order, signed by Raval Hamendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the Higher Education Department, stated, "According to a report submitted by the College Principal, Santanu Majumder admitted that his behavior was inappropriate. He has compromised the integrity and decorum of the institution and tarnished the reputation of the teaching profession."
Earlier, a video purportedly showing the Assistant Professor involved in inappropriate physical conduct with a student went viral.
This video, recorded on July 21, allegedly depicted the pair engaging in intimate actions within college grounds, raising grave concerns regarding the sanctity of the academic setting.
Abhijit Sarkar, Principal of Kamalpur Degree College, commented, "Upon receiving a complaint, we initiated an investigation and a comprehensive report has been submitted to the Higher Education Department."
Sources have indicated that Majumder had been in an illicit relationship with the female student for almost two years.
In a separate incident, another Assistant Professor from a government-run degree college, Abhijit Nath, was suspended for his alleged involvement in the unauthorized admission of students for the 2025-26 academic session.
Raval Hamendra Kumar suspended Nath following media reports regarding malpractice in the admission process for the upcoming academic year.
The suspension order indicated that initial information from Ramthakur College, located on the outskirts of Agartala, revealed 69 cases of unauthorized admissions.
"...it appears that Nath was implicated in serious malpractice, forgery, and a significant breach of admission protocols," the order highlighted.
