Agartala, April 30 (NationPress) In Tripura, out of a total of 5,47,743 members in Self Help Groups (SHGs), an impressive 91,871 women have achieved the status of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ through their efforts in diverse entrepreneurial ventures, as announced by Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday.

While distributing appointment letters to 228 government teachers, the Chief Minister emphasized that women empowerment is a key focus for the Tripura government.

A ‘Lakhpati Didi’ refers to an SHG member whose annual household income exceeds Rs 1 lakh.

These women not only achieve financial success but also serve as role models by adopting sustainable livelihood practices and maintaining a respectable standard of living.

The SHGs facilitate the rise of women into ‘Lakhpati Didis’ through collective efforts, financial literacy, and skill enhancement, thus empowering members for entrepreneurial activities.

The Chief Minister noted that the government is committed to supporting this initiative, promoting a variety of livelihood activities, and encouraging collaboration across sectors for effective planning and execution.

Currently, Tripura boasts 53,623 SHGs under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, with 4.84 lakh rural women participating, while the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission has formed approximately 5,941 SHGs engaging 63,743 urban women.

He revealed that Rs 746.80 crore has been allocated as financial support (revolving fund) to these SHG members for producing and marketing various goods and engaging in multiple business sectors.

CM Saha mentioned that since taking office in March 2018 until March this year, the state government has created jobs for 17,554 individuals, both men and women.

Additionally, through outsourcing, about 5,700 individuals have been employed across various departments, and thousands more have found job opportunities through various private initiatives and government-backed schemes.

According to CM Saha, Tripura's unemployment rate is currently lower than the national average, with the government implementing numerous measures to enhance this further.

He shared that based on the periodical labour force survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Tripura's unemployment rate was 10% compared to the national average of 5.8% during the 2018-19 fiscal year.

“Now, the unemployment rate has decreased to 1.7%, while the national average stands at 3.2%. This indicates a higher employability rate in the state,” he stated.

CM Saha concluded by emphasizing that unlike previous administrations where jobs were allocated based on party affiliation, the current government prioritizes merit and transparency in employment.
