Indore, June 25 (NationPress) BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi thoroughly criticized the Congress party on Wednesday, highlighting its dark legacy associated with the Emergency period and claiming it has been perpetuating the same mentality instead of aiding in constructing a strong democracy.
Reflecting on the events of June 25, 1975 – the day the Emergency was declared, the Rajya Sabha MP noted that this day symbolizes a grim chapter in the narrative of Indian democracy where the opposition's voice was silenced, freedom of expression was curtailed, and the fundamental rights of citizens were stripped away.
Dr. Trivedi's remarks about the Congress party came during a press conference at the Indore Metropolitan office, commemorating 50 years since the Emergency, a period marked by the suppression of voices and the infringement of civil liberties under the then-Indira Gandhi administration.
The BJP MP referenced the Congress' slogan, 'India is Indira, and Indira is India', asserting that this Emergency mindset continues to exist within the historic party even in contemporary times.
“The Congress desires to govern the nation based on its preferences. When it wins elections, it has no qualms about the Constitution, but following electoral defeats, it starts claiming that the Constitution is under threat,” he remarked, ridiculing the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi's frequent presentation of the red book at public gatherings.
He also expressed strong disapproval of LoP Gandhi's comments made abroad, where he allegedly sought international intervention to uphold India's democratic values.
“A few months back, Rahul Gandhi traveled overseas and questioned why the champions of democracy - the US and Europe - were silent regarding India. Such statements reveal the party's Emergency mentality,” he stated, questioning why personal political aspirations should outweigh national interests.
Trivedi urged the younger generation to draw lessons from this dark chapter in democracy and emphasized the necessity for a dynamic democracy, where no faction could even contemplate such a system.
“A dynamic democracy is emerging under the Modi government. Since the BJP took office in 2014, several opposition leaders have been appropriately recognized and rewarded for their contributions, transcending political divides,” he highlighted.
“The BJP embodies a political ethos that honors 'Bharat Mata' and 'Vande Mataram', while the Congress continues to adhere to the mindset of 'India is Indira, and Indira is India',” he concluded, sharply criticizing the Congress party.
