Trump Hints at Potential Iran Agreement Amid Rising Tensions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, March 30 (NationPress) President Donald Trump indicated that a potential agreement with Iran might be on the horizon, despite detailing significant US military actions that he asserted had undermined Iran's military capabilities and leadership, thereby expediting talks.
“I do see a deal in Iran… it could happen soon,” Trump remarked to reporters aboard Air Force One while returning from Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
He stated that the United States was actively engaged in both direct and indirect negotiations with Tehran. “We are negotiating with them in both ways. We have emissaries, but we are also communicating directly,” he noted.
Trump associated this diplomatic initiative with recent military operations, claiming extensive damage to Iranian assets. “We aimed to eliminate 158 ships, their entire Navy, which we achieved… we dismantled their entire Air Force… most of their missiles,” he asserted.
He maintained that these strikes had altered Iran's leadership landscape. “It is a genuine regime change… we have a new group… a regime we have never interacted with before that is behaving very rationally,” Trump said.
According to Trump, Tehran has reacted favorably to US requests. “We outlined 15 demands and, for the most part… they are aligning with us on the plan,” he stated.
He also pointed to what he described as positive gestures from Iran. “They provided us with 10 large boatloads of oil… and today they delivered another 20 boatloads of oil... which will commence shipping tomorrow,” he shared.
However, Trump recognized the uncertainty surrounding a final deal. “I believe we’ll reach an agreement with them, quite likely. But there’s a chance we won’t,” he cautioned.
When asked about deploying US troops, Trump noted that Washington had multiple strategies at its disposal. “We have substantial naval presence over there… I have numerous alternatives,” he affirmed.
He reiterated his strong stance regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “I don’t want Iran to possess a nuclear weapon… if they acquired one, they would use it instantly,” he warned.
Trump cautioned of severe repercussions if Tehran does not comply. “They’re going to abandon nuclear weapons… and perhaps rebuild their nation. But if they don’t… they won’t even have a country,” he declared.
He also mentioned that regional allies have intensified their responses following recent assaults. “Saudi Arabia is retaliating vigorously… Qatar is pushing back, UAE is also engaging… they are all firmly aligned with us,” he remarked.
