How Can UAE Tweak Their Ball Strategy for a Better Result?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) UAE cricketer Alishan Sharafu expressed that his team's batting lineup gained confidence from their initial match at the World Cup, despite facing a ten-wicket defeat against New Zealand. He hopes for some adjustments with the ball to secure a better outcome against Canada at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.
Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem both scored fifties, leading UAE to a total of 173 against New Zealand. However, the Blackcaps successfully chased down the target without losing a wicket in a remarkable performance in Chennai. Now, UAE must defeat Canada to register their first points in the Group D standings.
"For me, it was a great start for our batting unit, and we were pleased with our first-innings total. Unfortunately, they came out aggressively, leading to our loss. It was a solid start with the bat, and I'm hopeful we can implement a few changes with the ball for a better outcome today," Sharafu shared with broadcasters prior to the match.
He also emphasized the significance of his partnership with captain Muhammad Waseem in UAE's batting strategy. "We've played together frequently, which helps us complement each other well, and I truly enjoy my time with him on the field.
"Our strategy was straightforward: maintain a positive mindset during the powerplay and aim to bat deep to maximize our scoring at the end. I got dismissed during the 15th over, but he remained at the crease, which was crucial for our innings," he added.
Sharafu mentioned that his experience in the International League T20 (ILT20) provided him with valuable exposure against elite bowlers. "Competing in the ILT20 a few months back was beneficial, as we faced many of these bowlers before.
"Having seen them previously reduces the anxiety. It's a wonderful confidence boost to carry into a tournament like this, enabling us to focus on small details and replicate our success here," he noted.
Looking forward, Sharafu highlighted the significance of maintaining a straightforward approach. "I simply aim to enjoy my batting. I like to take my chances early on in the powerplay, and after that, I wait for the right balls to hit. I try to keep it uncomplicated - just go out and have fun," he concluded.
