T20 World Cup: Will Canada's Unchanged Squad Triumph Against UAE?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) An unchanged Canada has emerged victorious at the toss, opting to bat first against UAE in a Group D match of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium this Friday. Both sides are eager to secure their first victory in the ongoing tournament. The pitch for this match is the same one used during the India-Namibia encounter on Thursday evening.
Canada is coming off a disappointing 57-run loss to South Africa and currently sits at the bottom of the group with a net run rate of -2.850. Meanwhile, UAE, despite showing some fight against New Zealand, faced a ten-wicket defeat and ranks just above Canada with a net run rate of -2.763.
After winning the toss, captain Dilpreet Bajwa confirmed that his lineup remains unchanged. “Both teams are considered associate nations, so our strategy is to bat first and apply pressure on the chase. The pitch looks promising; we observed India’s strong performance yesterday. It’s clearly a batting-friendly surface,” he remarked.
“As I mentioned, there will be pressure during the chase. Captaining Canada has been a rewarding experience for me, and I appreciate the board for the opportunity. I’m thoroughly enjoying this role,” he added.
On the other hand, UAE captain Muhammad Waseem announced the inclusion of Muhammad Farooq and Muhammad Jawadullah in the playing eleven, replacing Dhruv Parashar and Muhammad Rohid Khan.
“In our second game on the same pitch, we are also focusing on our batting. However, we need to ensure we restrict them to a low total. Honestly, there’s no pressure on us. We will play our game, both with bat and ball, against the opposition, that’s our plan,” he stated.
