The hosts of the Americas Qualifiers confirmed their participation after clinching a victory over the Bahamas, marking their fifth successive win in this ongoing tournament.
Kaleem Sana and Shivam Sharma each took three wickets as Canada dismissed the Bahamas for a mere 57 runs. The chase was completed in just 5.3 overs, with Dilpreet Bajwa scoring an explosive unbeaten 36 off just 14 deliveries, ensuring a resounding victory and qualification.
Having competed in last year’s Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean, Canada entered the qualifiers as one of the frontrunners for advancement.
The team, captained by Nicholas Kirton, began their campaign with a commanding win over Bermuda by 110 runs. This was followed by a 59-run victory against the Cayman Islands and a 10-wicket triumph over the Bahamas in their first matchup.
In their second match against the Cayman Islands, a game shortened to five overs per side, Canada again emerged victorious, scoring 82 runs and ultimately winning by 42 runs.
With this achievement, Canada joins a list of 10 teams that have qualified for the 20-team event, alongside co-hosts India and Sri Lanka. Other qualified nations include Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the United States, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
Seven additional teams will qualify for the Men's T20 World Cup through the Regional Qualifiers: two from the Europe Qualifier (scheduled for July 5–11), two from the Africa Qualifier (set for September 18 to October 4), and three from the Asia–EAP Qualifier (to be held from October 1-17).
