New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Udit Raj has asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's claims are unreliable unless there is an official confirmation from the US Presidency that no third-party mediation was sought during Operation Sindoor.
He pointed out the absence of a special parliamentary session to address US President Donald Trump's repeated mentions of facilitating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and India's Operation Sindoor.
Raj's comments followed Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's revelation of a 35-minute phone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump.
During this call, PM Modi informed Trump that the decision to cease military operations was made through direct communication between the Indian and Pakistani military, firmly rejecting any form of external mediation regarding Pakistan-related issues.
However, Udit Raj refuted the government's interpretation of the discussion, accusing the Prime Minister of being dishonest.
"Trump has mentioned this 14 times. What benefit does PM Modi's statement provide? The Prime Minister often resorts to falsehoods to secure electoral victories. If the phone call with Trump truly occurred, why has he not summoned a special parliamentary session? Why hasn’t he countered Trump’s 14 claims regarding ceasefires?" Raj stated during an interview with IANS.
The Congress leader further criticized the government's failure to challenge Trump's narrative on a global scale.
"What prompted PM Modi to attend the G7? He had no purpose there. Even then, Trump indirectly undermined India by suggesting that Russia and China should join the G7. Why didn’t he advocate for India’s membership? How can anyone place trust in PM Modi's assertions? Until Trump or the White House officially validate what PM Modi claims, there’s no reason to believe it," he added.
"We believe in the truth. Trump stated this 14 times. Has PM Modi ever refuted it? Can a government operate on lies?" he questioned.
Raj also referred to the current US visit of Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who is set to meet Trump, indicating a transformation in Pakistan's global positioning.
"Since Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s international image and foreign policies have been on an upward trajectory. No nation has stood by India. Is speaking this truth deemed anti-national? It is in the nation’s best interest to examine where we might have faltered. Ignoring these realities could lead to our downfall," Raj concluded.
He contrasted the current situation with Pakistan's previous international isolation following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
"There was a time when the world collectively isolated Pakistan. Now, we find ourselves isolated. Whether through the ADB or IMF, assistance is being provided to Pakistan to counter India. Pakistan has also normalized relations with countries it once had strained ties with," he expressed.
