New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) Three universities located in Rajasthan have been prohibited from admitting scholars into the Ph.D. program for the next five years.

A Standing Committee has been formed by the UGC to oversee compliance with the procedures for awarding Ph.D. degrees as per UGC Regulations.

This committee's responsibilities include proposing corrective actions and advising on measures against universities that do not adhere to the regulations. Upon reviewing the data submitted by the universities, the committee identified that three universities did not comply with the UGC Ph.D. Regulations and the academic standards required for conferring Ph.D. degrees.

These universities were given a chance to justify their non-compliance, but their explanations were deemed inadequate.

Consequently, the Standing Committee has advised that the UGC should bar these universities from enrolling Ph.D. candidates for a period of five years.

In light of this recommendation, it has been resolved to prohibit these three universities from admitting scholars into the Ph.D. program from the academic year 2025-26 to 2029-30.

The affected institutions have been notified of this UGC decision and instructed to cease enrolling Ph.D. students immediately. The universities involved are OPJS University (Churu), Sunrise University (Alwar), and Singhania University (Jhunjhunu), all situated in Rajasthan.

The UGC advises prospective students and their guardians not to enroll in the Ph.D. programs offered by these universities moving forward. Without UGC endorsement, the Ph.D. degrees conferred by these institutions will not be regarded as valid or recognized for further education or employment.

M. Jagadesh Kumar, UGC Chairman, stated to IANS that universities must uphold the highest standards in their Ph.D. programs.

“The UGC will implement measures against institutions that do not comply with the UGC's Ph.D. regulations. We are also examining the quality of Ph.D. programs in other universities. Should any violations of the regulations be found, actions will be taken. It is essential to identify such non-compliant institutions and prevent them from accepting Ph.D. students. We must safeguard the integrity and global standing of Indian higher education,” he emphasized.
