UN Requests $4.1 Billion to Support Palestinians in 2025

United Nations, December 12 (NationPress) The United Nations along with humanitarian partners has announced a flash appeal amounting to $4.1 billion for the year 2025 to support 3.3 million Palestinians.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs indicated that nearly 90 percent of the required funds will go towards humanitarian efforts in Gaza, while the remaining funds will be allocated for the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as reported by Xinhua.

According to OCHA, "The rapidity and extent of the ongoing violence and destruction are unprecedented in the recent history of the Gaza Strip." This appeal aims to provide for the entire population of Gaza, which encompasses approximately 2.1 million people, all of whom are in dire need of humanitarian aid following 14 months of intense conflict.

Humanitarian agencies have stated that the required funding exceeds the $4.1 billion requested, estimating that a comprehensive humanitarian response would necessitate $6.6 billion.

This flash appeal signifies the anticipation that aid organizations will encounter severe operational constraints in 2025, which will significantly restrict the level of support they can offer.

OCHA emphasized that Israel must take immediate and effective actions to ensure that the basic needs of civilians are met, which includes lifting all barriers to aid and fully facilitating humanitarian operations, such as the distribution of vital supplies to Palestinians in need.

Furthermore, humanitarian workers reported that Israeli authorities have issued another evacuation order in various parts of Deir al Balah governorate in Gaza, marking the third evacuation order this year.

The area affected by the evacuation spans around 3 square kilometers and is home to approximately 10,000 individuals, according to an initial assessment from humanitarian partners. Part of this area lies within the Al Mawasi zone, where Israeli forces have mandated civilians to relocate.

Such large-scale evacuation orders by Israel place civilians at risk of hostilities and limit their access to essential services.

The office has indicated that partners are observing movements of some families heading west and are closely monitoring the situation while addressing the needs of the newly displaced with the limited resources available.
