Nagpur, Sep 10 (NationPress) Esteemed spiritual figure Sri Sri Ravi Shankar voiced serious concerns on Wednesday regarding the escalating violence in Nepal, hinting at the potential for an international conspiracy behind the extensive protests led by Gen-Z that have unsettled the Himalayan nation.
In statements to the press, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar remarked, “The discontent among the youth has been on the rise as they lack guidance. Nonetheless, every movement attracts anti-social elements, and it appears plausible that there may be international forces at play.”
Earlier, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar took to social media platform X, stating: “The tragic loss of lives and damage to public assets in Nepal is profoundly regrettable. I urge the citizens of Nepal to maintain calm and pursue peaceful conversations for mutual understanding.”
The situation in Nepal has swiftly worsened, leading to the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on Tuesday afternoon. His resignation follows intense pressure from large-scale youth demonstrations, resulting in at least 20 fatalities, including the spouse of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, with many others injured.
In his resignation letter to President Ram Chandra Poudel, Prime Minister Oli referenced the “abnormal conditions” enveloping the nation, indicating his decision to step down under Article 77 (1) of the Constitution to facilitate a constitutional resolution to the turmoil.
Oli had taken office in 2024 through a consensus with the Nepali Congress, the largest political faction in the nation.
As law and order deteriorated, the Nepali Army intervened on Wednesday evening, declaring a nationwide curfew from Wednesday night until Thursday morning. This action came after the civilian administration struggled to manage the chaos, with government and private properties vandalized and set ablaze during the protests.
Previously, curfew enforcement had been the responsibility of the District Administration Office as per the Local Administration Act of 1971. However, with civilian structures in disarray, the Army took charge to restore order.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Tuesday to evaluate the emerging crisis in Nepal. Post-meeting, he expressed profound sorrow over the violence and loss of young lives.
“Upon returning from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today, I led a CCS meeting to deliberate on developments in Nepal. The violence there is tragic. The peace, stability, and prosperity of Nepal are crucial to us. I appeal to all my brothers and sisters in Nepal to promote peace,” the Prime Minister stated in a post on X.
Security measures have been intensified along the Indo-Nepal border in response to the violent protests and political instability in the neighboring capital, Kathmandu.
