New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) A sum of $1,600 that was stolen from the purse of an Iranian tourist has been successfully located and retrieved just hours after the theft occurred. A bus helper has been apprehended in connection with this incident at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Kashmere Gate, as confirmed by the Delhi Police on Sunday.
The theft came to light when Dr. Ali Akbar Shah, a professor at Delhi University, filed a complaint at the Police Post ISBT Kashmere Gate. He reported that his guest, Fareshteh Sayanjali, an Iranian citizen, who had arrived in India on December 13, traveled to Uttarakhand and returned to Delhi on December 15 via a FlixBus from Rishikesh.
Upon her arrival at ISBT Kashmere Gate around 1:45 p.m., Sayanjali accidentally left her purse on the bus. Shortly after, she received a call from the bus operator stating that her purse had been found.
However, upon retrieving her purse, she realized that the $1,600 that was inside was gone.
In response to the complaint, a case was registered under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kashmere Gate police station on December 16, prompting an immediate investigation.
A dedicated police team, including Head Constables Mukesh and Sheeshram, along with Constable Bablesh, was assembled under the guidance of Inspector Prashant Yadav, the SHO of Kashmere Gate police station, and under the oversight of ACP Shankar Banerjee.
During the investigation, officers interrogated both the driver and conductor of the FlixBus. The conductor revealed that the purse had been left behind on a seat and was submitted to him by the bus helper, named Monish.
Initially, Monish provided misleading information; however, after extended questioning, he confessed to taking the cash from the purse.
Following this confession, he was arrested, and a late-night raid at his home in Jahangirpuri resulted in the recovery of the entire stolen amount of $1,600.
According to DCP Raja Banthia, the arrested individual, Monish, aged 26, is a Class 10 graduate who has been employed as a helper with FlixBus for the past year.
