The Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla, stated that high-value transactions made by Rinku, 21, who indulged in a lavish spending spree following the theft, led the investigators directly to his location.
The victim, Satinder Singh Chhabra, lodged a complaint indicating that his domestic help, Rinku, had purloined cash and jewelry amounting to several lakhs of rupees from his home.
As a result, a case under FIR No. 97/25, dated September 6, was registered at the Barakhamba Road Police Station for theft by servant, prompting an investigation.
The missing items reported by Chhabra comprised Rs 56,800 in cash, five rings, four studs, three 50-gram silver biscuits, one 100-gram silver biscuit, one kada, and two gold-colored bracelets.
Additionally, the complainant noted that some foreign currency was also stolen, including five euros, 20 dirhams, two ringgit, and two Singapore dollars.
Upon receiving Chhabra’s complaint, the police promptly apprehended Rinku as the main suspect for questioning.
DCP Mahla highlighted that an analysis of Rinku’s mobile phone revealed questionable UPI transactions involving substantial amounts of money.
“Further investigation traced the digital footprint of these financial activities, reinforcing the case against the suspect,” he mentioned.
During intensive interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in previous thefts at the complainant’s home. He was swiftly arrested, and following his guidance, stolen jewelry and cash were recovered from his rented accommodation in Sangam Vihar, South Delhi.
Rinku also revealed that a portion of the cash and jewelry had been dispatched to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, as stated by the DCP.
Regarding the domestic worker’s background, the DCP noted that he originates from Usari village, District Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Initially, he worked as a domestic helper in a residence in Rajouri Garden. Subsequently, he secured a job via a placement agency at the Chhabra family’s residence. However, driven by greed, he commenced stealing from his employer’s premises, DCP Mahla elaborated.
