New Delhi, Nov 24 (NationPress) The Delhi Police apprehended a thief on Monday who pilfered jewellery from a relative's residence. The recovery of stolen gold items was made by the Bindapur Police Station team in the Dwarka district following the arrest.
As stated by the Dwarka Police, the team retrieved a gold chain with a locket, another gold chain, a pair of gold chains, a pair of gold earrings, two gold rings, and a 20-gram gold biscuit at the direction of the accused.
On November 9, an online e-FIR (No. 80106448/25) was lodged under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Bindapur Police Station. The police team visited the location and met the complainant, Manjinder Kaur, wife of Aslam Saleem, residing on Arya Samaj Road, Uttam Nagar, Delhi. She reported that unknown individuals had stolen jewellery from her home. Following her complaint, the aforementioned e-FIR was filed.
In line with a zero-tolerance policy directed by the DCP of Dwarka District, a specialized team from Bindapur Police Station was designated to investigate the case and apprehend the offender. The team included Head Constable Neeraj, Head Constable Ashok, Constable Rajesh Dagar, and Constable Ashish, all under the supervision of Inspector Naresh Sangwan, Station House Officer, with overall guidance from Rajkumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dabri.
During the investigation, the team visited the crime scene and analyzed CCTV footage from the property and its vicinity. Notably, there were no indications of forced entry, with no locks or doors damaged, leading the police to suspect that the perpetrator was familiar with the residence or lived in the same building.
As inquiries progressed, it became evident that a cousin of the complainant had visited and stayed at the residence for three days. The police interrogated the cousin, identified as Parmjeet Singh, a resident of GTB Nagar, Lalhedi Road, Ludhiana, Punjab. Initially, Parmjeet claimed to be Sub-Inspector Parmveer Singh but failed to present any identification and could not satisfactorily explain his purported posting.
Due to inconsistencies in his statements, the police conducted further questioning. Under intensive interrogation, Parmjeet confessed to being a commission agent involved in the sale of old cars and ultimately admitted to stealing the jewellery from the complainant's house, who is his maternal aunt's daughter.
He further disclosed that he hid the stolen jewellery at his maternal grandfather’s home in Ambota, Himachal Pradesh, concealed inside a bed. Based on his confession, Parmjeet was arrested, brought before the court, and placed in police custody. A police team accompanied him to Himachal Pradesh, where the stolen items were successfully retrieved.
Further investigations are ongoing.
