New Delhi, Nov 25 (NationPress) In a rapid and well-coordinated effort, Delhi Police apprehended four suspects on Tuesday for allegedly robbing an 86-year-old woman of her gold jewelry after gaining entry into her home under the guise of inquiring about a rental room in the Bindapur locality of Dwarka district.
The police reported that the perpetrators—two sisters, their brother, and an accomplice—devised their scheme after noticing the elderly woman wearing gold ornaments while seated outside her residence. A sign indicating a rental vacancy allowed them to approach and gain access to her property.
The arrested suspects are identified as Anjali, Ranju, and their brother Ratan Mehto, along with their friend Raju. Authorities recovered a pair of gold bangles, a pair of gold earrings, and a gold ring, all of which were forcibly taken from the victim during the incident.
On November 14, a call was made to the PCR at Bindapur Police Station, reporting that two women and two men had forcefully entered the home of the caller’s elderly mother, stolen her jewelry, and fled the scene. Following this report, a case was registered under FIR No. 701/25, invoking Sections 309(6)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Considering the seriousness of the crime, a specialized team was formed. This team, comprising SI Sandeep, HC Neeraj, and Constables Ashish, Rajesh Dagar, and Narender, operated under the guidance of Inspector Naresh Sangwan, SHO of Bindapur, with overall direction from ACP Dabri, Rajkumar.
The team utilized covert informants and initiated extensive technical monitoring. Officers meticulously reviewed over 150 CCTV cameras in the vicinity. The footage was enhanced and examined thoroughly until they identified one of the female suspects.
Following this lead, the police team executed a raid at a residence in Nanda Ram Park, Uttam Nagar, where they discovered all four suspects together. A search of their belongings led to the recovery of the stolen jewelry, resulting in their swift arrest.
During the interrogation, the suspects recounted their plan. Approximately ten days before the robbery, they had observed the elderly woman outside, adorned with gold jewelry. Tempted by her appearance, they began monitoring her daily routine.
Around four to five days before the crime, Anjali and Ranju approached the woman under the pretense of inquiring about the available room. During this visit, they learned that she was alone during the day, information that played a crucial role in their scheme.
On November 14, once they confirmed her solitude, all four suspects entered her home, pretending to discuss the rental opportunity, before robbing her and fleeing.
The investigation is ongoing.
