Lucknow, Aug 14 (NationPress) Wrapping up an exhaustive 24-hour discussion on the Vision Document 2047 in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that India can only realize its ambition of becoming a developed nation when every state contributes effectively, with Uttar Pradesh leading the way.
Expressing gratitude to the 187 MLAs from both the ruling and opposition parties who engaged in the debate, the Chief Minister noted that the vigorous and meaningful conversations showcased the power of democracy.
“Uttar Pradesh is not merely the most populous state but also a torchbearer of India’s spiritual and cultural legacy -- a hub of its cultural and spiritual vitality,” he remarked.
Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments at the 2023 Global Investors Summit in Lucknow, CM Yogi stated that UP is a “bright spot for the world” and will propel India’s growth.
He acknowledged that while many members were eager to contribute, the debate had to progress within the limits of time and resources. “A detailed strategy will be formulated, discussed with stakeholders, and sector-specific matters will be revisited in the House,” he added.
Labeling the discussion an “eye-opener” for critics of legislative operations, Yogi commended members who participated throughout the night.
“We are fortunate to be in the Amrit Kaal of independence. This is a moment for reflection -- assessing what we have gained and what we have lost,” he stated.
Dividing the debate into two segments -- 1947-2017 and 2017-2047 -- Yogi pointed out that UP’s economic past holds valuable lessons. Despite its fertile land, historical cities, rivers, and a vast workforce, the state’s contribution to the national GDP plummeted from 14 percent in the 1960s to just 8 percent by 2016-17. Per capita income, once on par with the national average, fell to a mere one-third, and exports were limited to Rs 84,000 crore, with a significant 56 percent reliance on the Centre for tax revenue.
Criticizing the Samajwadi Party’s PDA slogan, Yogi quipped, “They speak of PDA, but it truly stands for Parivar Development Authority. The entire world is progressing, yet they are mired in family politics.”
He pointed out that past “economic lockdowns” under previous administrations hindered UP’s development. “UP houses 16 percent of India’s population, yet its GDP was driven into decline. Since 2017, the double-engine government has restored trust with a strong stance against crime, ensuring a secure environment for industries, and accelerating infrastructure growth through expressways, airports, and metro systems,” the Chief Minister asserted.
“UP is the engine of India’s progress,” Yogi concluded, “and during this Amrit Kaal, its role will be crucial.”
