New Delhi/Washington, April 16 (NationPress) The visit of US Vice President J.D. Vance to India, scheduled from April 21 to 24, presents a significant opportunity for both nations to evaluate the advancements in their bilateral relations and to assess the implementation of the agreements made in the India-US Joint Statement released in February during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday.

Accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance, their children, and senior officials from the US Administration, Vance's official trip marks his inaugural visit to India. His agenda includes a meeting with Prime Minister Modi on April 21, along with various engagements in New Delhi, and visits to Jaipur and Agra before returning to Washington on April 24.

According to a statement issued by the MEA late Wednesday, "This visit will allow both nations to review the progress in bilateral relations and the outcomes of the India-US Joint Statement released on February 13, 2025, during the Prime Minister's visit to the US. The two sides will also discuss regional and global developments of mutual interest."

Earlier, the White House confirmed the Vice President's upcoming trips to both Italy and India, with India being the second stop on their two-nation tour.

This marks the first visit to India by an American Vice President in 13 years, with the last being Joe Biden, who traveled to India in 2013 while serving as Vice President under President Barack Obama.

Vance's office confirmed that during his stay in India, he will visit New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. Meetings with Prime Minister Modi are on the agenda, and the Vice President and his family will engage in activities at cultural sites.

There was no mention of Mike Waltz, the National Security Advisor, in the White House announcement, leaving it unclear when he will travel to India. His visit, when it occurs, will be the third by a senior member of the Trump administration to India, following Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, and Vice President Vance.

The Vice President previously met PM Modi in Paris during the AI summit in February, where the Second Lady and their children were also present.

Vance has become a pivotal figure in the Trump cabinet, supporting President Donald Trump’s agenda. He is frequently called upon for comments during public meetings with foreign dignitaries. One of his key interventions occurred during a meeting with Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky.

Usha Vance's family emigrated from Andhra Pradesh to the US, and she was born in San Diego with the birth name Usha Bala Chilukuri.

Notably, Vance's predecessor, Vice President Kamala Harris, did not visit India during her tenure, despite sharing Indian heritage like Usha Vance—whose family hails from Tamil Nadu. Similarly, Mike Pence, Vice President during Trump's first term, also expressed a desire but could not visit India.
