Bhubaneswar, Sep 9 (NationPress) In a significant blow to the leadership of Naveen Patnaik and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Rayagada district, prominent leader and former party MP, N Bhaskar Rao, announced his resignation from the party's primary membership on Tuesday, joining former minister Lal Bihari Himirika in this unexpected move.
In a stunning development for the party, several other senior leaders and party workers also left the BJD alongside Rao and Himirika.
In his resignation letter addressed to party President Naveen Patnaik, Rao stated, “I don't hold any grievances against any person for any reason. With a heavy heart, I submit my resignation from the Biju Janata Dal, marking the end of my active political journey within the party.
“I have dedicated my political responsibilities to the BIJU PARIWAR and now conclude my political journey within it.”
Rao indicated that he joined the 'Biju Pariwar' and entered active politics in 1974 at the invitation of the legendary Biju Patnaik.
During a press conference in Rayagada, Rao unveiled the formation of a new organization named ‘Biju Swabhiman Manch’, aimed at promoting the welfare of the residents of Rayagada district.
He clarified that there are no political motivations behind this initiative, emphasizing that ‘Biju Swabhiman Manch’ serves as a purely social platform.
Reports suggest that Rao was dissatisfied with the recent appointment of former minister Jagannath Saraka as the district president of the BJD in Rayagada.
Alongside Rao, Himirika also stepped down from the party's primary membership, expressing his gratitude to Naveen Patnaik in his resignation letter. “I, Lal Bihari Himirika, respectfully submit my resignation from party responsibilities. I am thankful for the chance to serve under your leadership and the legacy of the Late Biju Patnaik.
“As a devoted party member, I have endeavored to serve with dedication and loyalty. However, at the age of 78, I feel I can no longer meet the demands of my party responsibilities effectively,” wrote the ex-Minister in his letter to the ailing BJD leader on Tuesday.
