Vijay Pursues Chief Minister Role, Rejects Deputy Position: Sengottaiyan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 16 (NationPress) Actor-turned-politician Vijay has embarked on his political journey with a definitive goal: to ascend as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and dedicate his efforts to public service. Consequently, according to K.A. Sengottaiyan, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and former state minister, there is no possibility of him accepting the role of Deputy Chief Minister.
Speaking to the media at the Coimbatore International Airport, Sengottaiyan rejected rumors suggesting that Vijay might consider a subordinate position in the government should his party collaborate with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
He underscored that Vijay's political aspirations are fueled by a profound desire to lead the state and instigate significant changes in governance.
"Vijay has entered the political arena with the sole aim of serving the people and aspiring to be Chief Minister. When an individual ventures into politics with such intentions, there’s no room for accepting a Deputy Chief Minister position," Sengottaiyan asserted.
His comments come at a time of heightened political activity in Tamil Nadu, as the upcoming Assembly elections approach and Vijay’s party, TVK, solidifies its position as a formidable new contender in the political sphere.
Speculation had circulated about the possibility of Vijay being offered a Deputy Chief Minister’s role in a potential alliance, especially if his party aligns with the NDA.
However, Sengottaiyan dismissed these claims, reiterating that Vijay’s ambitions are considerably greater.
He pointed out that Vijay’s immense popularity and the large crowds at his events signify a public yearning for a political alternative.
"People flock to see Vijay wherever he goes, which clearly shows that the citizens of Tamil Nadu are in search of change," he stated.
Sengottaiyan also voiced concerns about the current state of law and order in Tamil Nadu, claiming it has worsened under the existing government. He mentioned that many residents, particularly women, feel unsafe and that there is a growing sense of discontent with the current administration.
"The law and order situation is troubling. Women do not feel secure, and many people live in fear," he said, adding that public sentiment seems to be turning against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
He expressed confidence that Vijay’s entry into politics could alter the electoral landscape.
According to Sengottaiyan, TVK plans to nominate capable candidates in all 234 Assembly constituencies across the state. He noted that he has rarely witnessed such overwhelming public support for a political figure prior to the formal commencement of elections, suggesting that Vijay’s rise could profoundly impact the upcoming electoral dynamics.
