Is Stalin's Rs 2,000 Assistance for Women a Reaction to TVK's Rise?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 13 (NationPress) Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay intensified his criticism of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Friday, raising concerns over what he termed growing public discontent in Tamil Nadu, claiming that the state's governance is "out of control".
Speaking at a packed party rally in Salem, Vijay addressed accusations that he has been "staying back at home," offering an emotional response.
"For those who inquire about my residence, do you know where it is? My home is Tamil Nadu. Eight crore people reside in my house. They are all my family," he declared, eliciting enthusiastic cheers from attendees.
In his attack on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Vijay accused the DMK administration of trying to suppress his party's advancement and claimed it has failed to maintain effective governance.
"Would you prefer someone who cares for the people, like me, or someone who is indifferent?" he posed to the crowd, framing the political contest as one between compassionate leadership and a neglectful government.
Vijay also challenged established political entities to "start anew" as he has, asserting that TVK's voter base is consistently growing throughout the state.
He scrutinized the timing of the government's recent declaration of a Rs 2,000 summer special support for women, insinuating that it was a response to electoral fears.
"What prompted the sudden announcement of Rs 2,000 summer aid? Did summer just arrive this year?" he questioned.
Additionally, he noted that the regular monthly assistance for women, typically credited on the 15th, was deposited on the 13th this time, suggesting that this change reflected political urgency.
Referencing TVK's 'whistle' symbol, Vijay remarked that the "sound of the whistle echoing from street to street" has instilled fear in the ruling party.
"We are the only force for the people capable of compelling them to act rightly," he asserted.
Addressing women voters directly, Vijay encouraged them to accept the assistance "with joy," claiming it was a result of the political influence of his entrance into public life, and he promised that a future TVK administration would operate with genuine concern rather than political motives.
