Dhinakaran attacks TVK govt stability, slams Vijay's 'Instagram' rule
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Sunday, 17 May launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu, questioning the coalition's durability and accusing it of abandoning political principles in pursuit of power. Speaking at a press conference in Tiruchy, Dhinakaran said the administration was already showing signs of structural strain.
Alliance Stability Under Question
Dhinakaran cast doubt on the long-term viability of the TVK-led alliance, particularly its ties with Left parties. 'I do not know whether Vijay and the Left parties will be able to hold together for another six months. The TVK government is already facing turbulence,' he said. He alleged that parties which had contested as a unified front before the elections had since shifted toward different political arrangements once in power — a move he described as opportunistic.
The 'Instagram Reels' Jibe at CM Vijay
In one of his sharpest barbs, Dhinakaran accused Chief Minister Vijay of prioritising optics over governance. 'The Chief Minister must move from an Instagram Reels administration to real governance,' he remarked. The remark pointed to what the AMMK leader characterised as a gap between the government's public image management and its on-ground administrative performance.
Vijay's AIADMK Stance Called Contradictory
Dhinakaran also targeted Vijay over what he described as a glaring inconsistency in the Chief Minister's position on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). He pointed out that Vijay had previously labelled the AIADMK a corrupt party but was now reportedly drawing on support extended by AIADMK legislators. 'Vijay called AIADMK a corrupt party in the past, but now he has accepted support from its MLAs. How can that be justified?' he asked.
Warning to AIADMK Legislators and Sengottaiyan
Turning his attention to senior AIADMK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan, Dhinakaran alleged that efforts were under way to weaken the party from within. 'He carries Jayalalithaa's image in his pocket while trying to destroy the party she built. Jayalalithaa's spirit will never forgive those attempting to weaken AIADMK,' he said. Dhinakaran warned that disciplinary action could follow against AIADMK legislators who continue to support the TVK government, and claimed that if ministerial positions were offered to AMMK or AIADMK legislators, demands for a CBI inquiry would surface, with significant political consequences to follow.
What This Signals
The broadside from Dhinakaran comes at a moment when Tamil Nadu's post-election political landscape remains fluid, with opposition parties probing for fault lines within the ruling coalition. Whether the TVK government can consolidate its alliance arithmetic amid such pressure will likely define the administration's early trajectory.
