Chennai, Nov 11(NationPress) As Tamil Nadu approaches the 2026 Assembly elections, actor Vijay's political party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has officially initiated the process of securing a common election symbol from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Sources within the party have indicated that this action aligns with the Election Commission's protocols, allowing registered political entities to apply for a common symbol at least six months in advance of the elections.
With only a short time remaining before the anticipated polling period, TVK has presented a formal memorandum requesting a symbol that will gain recognition across all 234 Assembly constituencies.
A high-ranking delegation, featuring party joint general secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and state executive members Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, Arjun Moorthy, and Vijay Prabhakaran, met with the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials in New Delhi to submit the petition.
The memorandum allegedly contained a list of ten preferred symbols, from which the Commission is anticipated to select one post-scrutiny.
"The party is thoroughly prepared to contest in all constituencies throughout Tamil Nadu. Therefore, a unified symbol is critical for voter recognition and effective campaigning," the petition articulated.
Sources from TVK mentioned that the party's leadership, including Vijay, regards this as a significant milestone in its political strategy.
Following the tragic incident in Karur during a people's rally, which deeply affected the actor-politician, the party is taking steps to regain its organizational strength and rebuild public trust.
Vijay has also urged his supporters and team members to carry out all political activities in a disciplined and peaceful manner, ensuring that "no harm comes to the public under any circumstance."
Election Commission sources have indicated that the final decision regarding symbol allocation is expected by the end of December 2025, after a thorough evaluation and verification of the party’s qualifications.
If approved, the common symbol will represent a pivotal moment for TVK as it prepares for its electoral debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections next year.
