Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 23 (NationPress) Despite “Homebound” not making it to the Oscars, actor Vishal Jethwa expressed that the film's journey is nothing short of remarkable. He emphasized that being among the final 15 selections from 86 entries is a deeply humbling experience, particularly considering his humble origins.
Vishal shared with IANS: “Although we didn’t secure a spot in the final nominations, being selected among the final 15 films out of 86 entries is a profound honor for me. Coming from a modest background where aspirations often seem far-fetched, witnessing Homebound reach this stage and represent India globally is truly extraordinary.”
The actor remarked that this journey has reinforced his faith in genuine storytelling and heartfelt cinema.
“Every milestone in this journey has served as a reminder of how far belief, tenacity, and authenticity can take one. I’m sincerely thankful to Neeraj Ghaywan for his vision, to Karan Johar for his faith in this project, and to my fellow actors Ishaan and Janhvi for being such motivating partners,” he added.
Vishal mentioned that he holds this experience with pride and gratitude, eagerly anticipating what the future holds.
The five films that made it to the final Oscar shortlist include The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirât (Spain), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia).
Homebound, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, also stars Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor. The last Indian film to receive a nomination in this category was Aamir Khan’s Lagaan in 2001. Last year, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light was not chosen as India’s official entry but received international acclaim nonetheless.
The film delves into the experiences of two childhood friends, portrayed by Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, as they endeavor to pass the national police examination.
