New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly on Wednesday, recognizing their pivotal role in crafting a Constitution that reflects “the soul of India.”
This tribute was part of the celebrations for the 75th Constitution Day at the Samvidhan Sadan in Parliament.
Among the dignitaries present were President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and other notable leaders.
During his address, the Vice President stated, “On this historic day in 1949, our revered Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of the Independent Bharat. I extend heartfelt greetings to all my fellow Bharatwasis. Since 2015, we have commemorated November 26 as Constitution Day each year.”
Reflecting on the “extraordinary leaders” like Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, Rajendra Prasad, K.M. Munshi, and other members of the Assembly, the Vice President emphasized that “on every page, we see the soul of our nation.”
“Our Constitution was drafted, debated, and adopted by remarkable leaders of Mother Bharat in the Constituent Assembly. It encapsulates the collective wisdom, sacrifices, and aspirations of millions who fought for freedom,” VP Radhakrishnan noted.
He further acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the drafting committee and constitutional assembly members, who provided “insightful thoughts to fulfill the hopes and dreams of countless Indians.”
“Their selfless dedication has established Bharat as the largest democracy worldwide today,” he added.
“Our Constitution emerged from intellect and lived experiences, sacrifices, hopes, and aspirations. The essence of our Constitution has proven that Bharat is united and will remain so forever,” stated the Vice President.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also honored the Assembly members, stating, “Their exceptional wisdom, foresight, and relentless efforts shaped a magnificent Constitution that guarantees justice, equality, respect, and dignity for every citizen.”
“This Central Chamber of the Constituent Assembly is a sacred space where, after rigorous discussions and deliberations, our Constitution was forged. The aspirations of the populace were ingrained within its provisions,” he emphasized.
Under the Constitution’s guidance, Birla noted that over the past seven decades, India has “formulated policies and laws to realize the goals of social justice and inclusive development.”
“With our Constitution as our guiding light, we have embarked on a transformative journey towards good governance and socio-economic advancement,” he concluded.
Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is observed annually on November 26, commemorating the Constituent Assembly's adoption of the Constitution, which took effect on January 26, 1950. This observance was officially recognized in 2015 to honor the principles of justice, secularism, liberty, equality, and fraternity embedded in the Constitution.
