Jaipur, 21 July (NationPress) In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing transparency and reform, the ‘Umeed Central Portal’ was inaugurated on 6 June 2025 for the digital management and data collection of Waqf Board properties nationwide.
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju disclosed this development in the Rajya Sabha while addressing a question posed by a Rajya Sabha MP and BJP State President.
Rathore explained that under the Integrated Waqf Management, Efficiency, Empowerment and Development (UMEED) Act, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has rolled out the Umeed Central Portal-2025.
In a mere six weeks post-launch, various states such as Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal have begun to upload their Waqf property data onto the portal.
He noted that this initiative aims to curb misuse and unauthorized occupation of Waqf properties, which were previously under-identified and vulnerable to exploitation.
“This portal will promote transparent, efficient, and accessible governance of Waqf assets, allowing public access to information that was once confined to a select few,” Rathore asserted.
The portal was developed in partnership with the Central Waqf Council, state Waqf boards, and the technical team from the Ministry, ensuring it is both inclusive and user-friendly.
Additionally, it will generate a Unique Identification Number (UID) for each Waqf property, enabling seamless tracking and monitoring of records and updates.
Rathore added that according to the mandated rules, Mutawallis (caretakers) will register on the portal using their mobile numbers and email addresses.
In instances where complaints arise regarding the wrongful designation of a property as Waqf, the assigned government official is required to complete the inquiry within one year, as per the guidelines.
This initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for systematic reform, is anticipated to herald a new era of accountability and transparency in the management of Waqf assets.
