New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments following the failure of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary expressed strong support for the government's initiative on women's reservation and condemned the Opposition for hindering it in Parliament.

Chaudhary emphasized that the Prime Minister's perspective was valid and reiterated the NDA's commitment to securing a 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies. He also shed light on Bihar's historical efforts towards women’s empowerment under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's leadership, critiquing the Opposition for its role in the bill's defeat in the Lok Sabha.

He stated, “The Prime Minister has articulated a crucial point. The Prime Minister and all NDA parties, including our own, are in favor of women's reservation. Bihar has always been at the forefront under Nitish Kumar's leadership... he initiated reservations for women. Therefore, if the PM is advocating for a 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament, why is the Opposition resisting? Their defeat of the bill in the Lok Sabha sends a negative message. Women across the nation will prevent them from entering Parliament just as they have obstructed women's representation.”

In Uttar Pradesh, Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar also weighed in on the situation, asserting that the legislative intent was fundamentally about social justice. He remarked, “The Prime Minister aims to enshrine women's reservation in the Constitution, as envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, ensuring equal participation for half the population. Nevertheless, Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and leaders from other factions have kept the Women’s Reservation Bill in limbo for 40 years, effectively stalling its approval.”

These remarks came after the government's inability to pass the Constitution (131st Amendment) Act and the Delimitation Bill, which aimed to allocate 33 percent reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

During his address to the nation on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi launched a scathing critique of Opposition parties, accusing them of “committing a foeticide of the idea of women’s representation before the world.” He asserted that political parties placing organizational interests above national priorities have impeded women's empowerment.

Moreover, the Prime Minister expressed his disappointment that parties like Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party (SP), and Trinamool Congress (TMC) celebrated the bill's defeat, deeming it a setback to women's dignity and representation.
