PM Modi Asserts Women’s Reservation Will Triumph Despite Parliamentary Setbacks
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi proclaimed on Saturday that even with recent challenges in Parliament, it is merely a matter of time until barriers to women's rightful representation are dismantled, affirming that the government's dedication to women's empowerment remains steadfast.
In a national address, PM Modi emphasized the ongoing battle for women's reservation, underscoring the determination and persistence in their efforts.
He directed his criticism towards the Congress and its allies, accusing them of having a historical reluctance towards women's reservation and alleging that the Opposition has relied on misinformation and diversionary strategies, which he claimed unveiled their “true faces” to the women of India.
“The Bill was not about credit. I even stated in Parliament that I would acknowledge the Opposition's contributions,” expressed Prime Minister Modi.
He further stated: “While we may not have secured 66 percent of the votes, we have received the blessings of 100 percent of women. Although we may not have the numbers today, our fight will persist.”
Framing the outcome of the Women’s Reservation Bill as part of a larger trend, the Prime Minister highlighted the Congress party’s opposition to significant measures like Aadhaar, GST, digital payments, reservations for economically weaker sections, and the abrogation of Article 370.
He argued that the party's strategy has been to obstruct reforms and create obstacles, instead of promoting progress.
Labeling the Congress an “anti-reform” party, Modi stated: “Congress resists all essential developments in the 21st century. This is the same party that opposed digital payments and even contested triple talaq laws. They have a long history of hindering any progress made for the nation's development.”
He also connected the Opposition’s position to dynastic politics, asserting that the Women’s Reservation Bill would have threatened their entrenched political dominance.
“They will always resist the ascent of women from outside their familial circles within the party,” the Prime Minister remarked.
“The nation will never forgive Congress and these parties,” he added.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Modi declared that the issue transcends mere numbers in Parliament; it is also about counteracting what he described as negativity in politics.
He reaffirmed that women's rightful representation is inevitable and that the government's commitment to achieving this will remain unwavering.
