PM Modi Urges Unity for Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a compelling argument on Thursday for the necessity of women's participation in national policymaking. He called upon all political factions to reach a consensus and expedite the passage of the women’s reservation Bill in Parliament, offering to publicly acknowledge their contribution for this landmark amendment.
During his address regarding the modifications to the women's reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi emphasized that the moment has arrived to ensure substantial representation for women at the national level. He criticized those who oppose the Bill for using “technicalities and justifications” as a means to postpone its approval.
He pointed out that this matter has lingered unresolved for 30 years and stressed the need for unanimous backing to address it, warning that any further delay would be scrutinized and that those attempting to hinder progress would face appropriate consequences.
The Prime Minister offered what he termed a “blank cheque” to members of the Opposition, encouraging them to endorse the Bill.
“We do not seek credit. If you pass it, I will take out an advertisement highlighting your photographs. I am providing you a blank cheque of recognition,” PM Modi stated amidst chants from the Opposition.
It’s noteworthy that a special three-day session of Parliament is taking place from April 16 to 18, focusing on three contentious Bills: The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026; the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026; and the Delimitation Bill, 2026.
Additionally, PM Modi advised the Opposition not to obstruct or hinder women from achieving their aspirations and dreams, asserting that such actions would be harmful.
He urged the Opposition to refrain from politicizing the Bill, emphasizing that everyone would benefit if the women’s reservation Bill becomes law.
He noted that while women’s representation has already been established at the grassroots level, ensuring the same in state and national legislatures would not only add sensitivity but also enrich the legislative bodies with their experiences and compassion. He asserted that there is an abundance of women’s talent in the nation.
In conclusion, taking a subtle jab at the Opposition, he remarked that the Parliament already has ample space to accommodate more lawmakers following delimitation, as the government had proactively constructed a larger building to accommodate this increase.
