New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a vigorous critique of the Opposition on Sunday after the Lok Sabha witnessed the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026. They claimed that the Congress party has a long-standing history of obstructing women's access to development and political representation.

This rebuke followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sharp remarks against Congress and its allies, accusing them of what he termed as "foeticide" against the proposed 'Nari Shakti Vandan' Amendment, which sought to elevate women's roles in Indian politics.

In his address to the nation on Saturday, the Prime Minister emphasized that the proposed amendment was designed not to strip rights from any group but to finally grant women, who represent almost half of the country's population, their rightful political representation.

Expressing his deep disappointment, PM Modi accused parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and DMK of "brutally killing" this initiative both in Parliament and in public discussions.

He further argued that the Congress has persistently resisted women's reservation and has consistently created hurdles whenever such proposals were introduced. According to him, this time the Opposition resorted to what he deemed misleading arguments, diversionary tactics, and statistical justifications to impede the Bill.

In response to these developments, Union Minister Giriraj Singh remarked to IANS, "The Opposition is against the women of the nation. The tukde-tukde gang, which identifies as the INDIA bloc, has deprived women of reservation. We are uncertain about what transpired with DMK and the people of Kerala. The Prime Minister had devised the most effective reservation formula, ensuring that no state would lose seats."

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also criticized the Opposition, asserting that voters would not forgive them for obstructing this crucial legislation.

Pathak stated to IANS, "The actions of Congress, Samajwadi Party, and other Opposition parties in halting the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament will not be forgiven by the women of this nation and the state. This represents a significant obstacle to realizing a Viksit Bharat. Congress and the Samajwadi Party will face repercussions for this."

"The Opposition has nothing meaningful to contribute. They aim to mislead the public with nonsensical statements. However, the women and the citizens of the country comprehend the truth very well," he added.

BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari claimed that Congress has continuously opposed reform and development initiatives.

"The Congress party is anti-women and anti-development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has voiced the frustration of the people towards the Congress party. The public has recognized that the Congress party's ideology and policies are anti-women, and whenever discussions on development or reforms arise, the Congress party consistently opposes them," Bhandari informed IANS.

He further contended that for 70 years, Congress failed to provide toilets, banks, or homes to women because "they intended for women to be deprived of development and representation."

"That is why the Indian National Congress has transformed into the Indian Anti-Women and Anti-Development Congress," the BJP spokesperson concluded.
