New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) Opposition figures have vehemently condemned the BJP in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks regarding the failure of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, claiming that the government is jeopardizing the Constitution and the federal structure under the guise of women's reservation.

Leading the charge, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari stated that the government's motives are misaligned with authentic empowerment. He expressed, “Let me be clear, Prime Minister, your party is misleading the public. Under the pretense of women's reservation, you are undermining the Constitution of India and the federal structure. This was a deliberate attempt. If you truly have the resolve, implement what was passed in 2023 right now. All parties will support you. Don’t tarnish the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office in this manner.”

Tiwari further accused, “Your party aimed to dismantle the Constitution. By introducing delimitation disguised as women's reservation, your party sought to eliminate the federal structure through deception. That’s my assertion.”

Independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnea also criticized the government sharply, crediting previous administrations for advancing women's empowerment while accusing the current government of engaging in mere political theatrics.

“In 2023, all political parties discussed women’s issues. Who granted women the right to vote and fought against social injustices? Who established scholarships, pensions, housing, and welfare initiatives? Who enacted critical laws like MGNREGA, Right to Health, and Right to Food? Women’s empowerment through Panchayati Raj has ensured significant female participation, primarily due to Rajiv Gandhi,” Yadav conveyed to IANS.

Continuing his critique, Yadav remarked, “What have they contributed to women’s advancement? The opposition has preserved the country’s democracy and upheld the Constitution. They have guaranteed the participation of women from poorer sections, EBC, SC, ST, and OBC communities. These individuals sought to permanently extinguish this progress. The opposition has safeguarded their political freedom.”

These reactions emerged after the government was unable to pass the Constitution (131st Amendment) Act and the Delimitation Bill, which intended to allocate 33 percent reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi accused opposition parties of “committing a foeticide of the idea of women’s representation before the entire world.” He claimed that the proposed legislation was designed to ensure balanced representation and strengthen the voice of states, but alleged it was obstructed by parties prioritizing political agendas over national interests.
