Zambian Authorities Prevent Human Trafficking Scheme

Lusaka, Dec 3 (NationPress) The Zambian authorities revealed that they successfully intercepted a vehicle that was transporting 13 Ethiopians who were being trafficked to South Africa.

Two local individuals have been apprehended, while a third remains at large for allegedly facilitating the trafficking of these foreign nationals on Monday, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

Zambia Police Service Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the incident occurred on Monday morning on the outskirts of Lusaka, the nation’s capital. Authorities, who had established a vehicle screening checkpoint, stopped a car with heavily tinted windows, which raised suspicions.

A closer examination unveiled a concerning sight of individuals lying atop one another within the vehicle, later identified as Ethiopians.

“Initial interviews indicated that the group had started their journey from Ethiopia, traversing through Kenya and Tanzania, and were destined for South Africa to meet an individual whose identity we are withholding to avoid compromising the ongoing investigations,” Hamoonga stated.

He further noted that the Ethiopians, who appeared weak and frail, have been taken into custody for their safety and further interrogation.
