Zomato Raises Platform Fees by 19.2%, Now Rs 14.90 per Order
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) The food delivery service Zomato has raised its platform fee by 19.2%, translating to an increase of Rs 2.40 per order, as indicated by the most recent billing information on its app as of Friday.
Before the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the updated platform fee is now Rs 14.90 per order, which is a rise from the previous Rs 12.50.
This recent increase is attributed to escalating energy costs, such as LPG and crude oil, which have led to higher operational expenses for both restaurants and delivery partners, thereby necessitating price adjustments by the platform.
Zomato last modified its platform fee in September 2025. Earlier this February, the fee was raised to Rs 10 per order from Rs 6 during the festive season.
Currently, Zomato's competitor, Swiggy, has set its platform fee at Rs 14.99 per order, inclusive of taxes.
Zomato originally implemented a platform fee of Rs 2 per order in August 2023, which has gradually increased in major markets.
This adjustment is part of a broader strategy by food delivery platforms to enhance their unit economics and profit margins in light of rising operational costs.
Shares of Zomato's parent company, Eternal, closed at Rs 233 on Friday, reflecting a 1.86% increase from the previous day and nearly a 7.5% rise for the week, although the stock has dropped around 13% over the past month.
The company reported a remarkable 72.88% increase in consolidated net profit, reaching Rs 102 crore for the December quarter (Q3 FY26), compared to Rs 59 crore during the same period last year. Revenue from operations surged to Rs 16,315 crore from Rs 5,405 crore a year prior.
Eternal, which rebranded from Zomato in March 2025, also experienced a significant rise in expenses.
