Mumbai, Feb 24 (NationPress) Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has named her favorite filmmakers and expressed her admiration for Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
During a recent episode of “Game Changers” hosted by film trade analyst Komal Nahta, Zoya was heard praising ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
When Nahta inquired: "Zoya, which emerging directors do you believe are ‘game changers’, or who do you see potential in?"
Zoya responded, "I have a lot of respect for Shakun Batra and Chaitanya Tamhane. Kiran Rao's ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was her second film, which I absolutely adored. I hope she continues to create more films."
Komal then asked: "Mention one film by another director that you genuinely enjoyed recently."
To which Zoya replied: ‘Laapataa Ladies’
“Laapataa Ladies” is a comedy-drama featuring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. It narrates the tale of two young brides who are mistakenly swapped during a train journey to their husbands’ homes.
Zoya is currently looking forward to the release of her new film “Superboys of Malegaon,” produced under her banner Tiger Baby.
In Superboys of Malegaon, she plays the lead role, stepping into the life of Nasir Shaikh, a well-known real-life filmmaker from Malegaon, recognized for his parodies of Bollywood and Hollywood films. The film also features Vineet Kumar Singh, Shashank Arora, and other talented performers.
Recently, the initial song from the drama was unveiled. Titled “Bande,” it is composed by the acclaimed duo Sachin-Jigar. This track serves as a powerful musical homage to resilience, passion, and the indomitable spirit of dreamers.
The energetic vibe of the song perfectly aligns with the inspiring journey of Nasir Shaikh—an aspiring filmmaker from Malegaon who dares to create a film for the people, by the people.
“Bande” also signifies a pivotal moment for Tiger Baby Records, a music label led by Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, and Ankur Tewari. “Superboys of Malegaon” marks the label’s debut in the realm of film music.
