In a broader context, 74% of employers nationwide are looking to onboard fresh talent during the January to June timeframe, with a variety of AI-related roles taking precedence.
This surge in the need for AI roles aligns with the government's initiative to reaffirm the nation's dedication to technological advancement and workforce development, as outlined in the ‘Career Outlook Report 2025’ by TeamLease EdTech.
The annual central budget has earmarked Rs 500 crore for establishing a Centre of Excellence in AI for Education. This further underscores India's ambition to enhance AI research and skill development on a large scale.
Other initiatives, including investments in groundbreaking technologies, workforce development through the PM Research Fellowship, and the expansion of IITs, aim to cultivate a youth workforce that is proficient in AI and advanced technologies.
These developments signal the pivotal role that AI will play in boosting productivity and automation, particularly with the increased funding for R&D, digital infrastructure, and advanced skill training programs, the report indicated.
“The transforming job market is reshaping talent evaluation. Employers are shifting focus from traditional degrees to prioritizing skills in data visualization, cloud computing, and robotics. This transition is creating exceptional opportunities for freshers to enter impactful roles and drive innovation across sectors,” stated Jaideep Kewalramani, Head of Employability Business and COO, TeamLease EdTech.
Major cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Chennai continue to serve as primary employment hubs, with hiring intentions in these locations reaching 78%, 65%, and 57%, respectively.
Organizations are on the lookout for talent with knowledge in robotic process automation, performance marketing, network security, and financial risk analysis.
The most in-demand soft skills for entry-level roles exhibit a combination of technical and interpersonal abilities.
Specifically, employers seek individuals who possess computational thinking and interpersonal skills to foster innovation, complemented by analytical reasoning for strategic decision-making and the adaptability to excel in evolving work environments, the report noted.
