Tech Careers in India Anticipated to Rise by 20% Next Year, GenAI Positions to Command Highest Salaries

New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Indian IT/tech landscape is expected to contribute 10% to India’s GDP by 2025, with a minimum 20% increase in emerging tech positions next year, according to a report released on Monday.
The generative AI sector is set to create 1 million new job opportunities by 2028, making a substantial contribution to the nation's GDP, as indicated in the findings by FirstMeridian Business Services.
Positions in GenAI, such as Generative AI engineer, Algorithm engineer, and AI security specialist, are projected to see salary increases from the previous year, with a forecasted 25-30% hike in compensation for mid-level roles.
Industries like global capability centres (GCCs) added over 600,000 jobs from 2018-19 to 2023-24. By 2030, they are expected to employ between 2.5 to 2.8 million professionals, according to the report.
Moreover, non-tech sectors like BFSI and telecom are anticipated to expand their recruitment of IT/tech professionals in the upcoming year.
“Organizations must focus on reskilling and upskilling to encourage innovation and sustain a competitive edge in the AI-driven economy. The top five skills likely to shape AI roles by 2025 are AI, ML, cloud computing, data science, and cyber security,” stated Sunil Nehra, CEO-IT Staffing, FirstMeridian Business Services.
In 2024, the Indian IT/tech sector experienced a 17% increase in new job opportunities, fueled by rapid digital transformation and the growing demand for niche tech job profiles.
As businesses evolve and innovate, the rise in hiring will support new projects, bolster digital infrastructure, and keep up with technological advancements.
Most large enterprises and mid-sized firms are expected to slightly increase their upskilling budgets by an average of 15-20% in 2025.
Additionally, individuals are likely to take proactive steps for their own upskilling to prepare for promising new-age tech roles, as mentioned in the report.
An emerging sector poised for significant growth in 2025 is the Indian IT gig economy, projected to triple and employ 24 million people by 2030, with most opportunities arising in 2025 and 2026 for in-demand skill areas such as AI engineers, data analysts, and cybersecurity experts.
A fresh wave of growth is unfolding within the Indian IT sector, reaching beyond tier 1 cities into tier 2 and tier 3 towns.
“This transition is expected to drive more than a 35% increase in hiring across these regions by 2025, with tier 2 cities such as Jaipur, Indore, and Coimbatore at the forefront,” the report highlighted.
