Bengaluru, Jan 13 (NationPress) In 2025, Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerged as a pivotal hiring driver in India, with a staggering 290,256 AI-related positions advertised last year, according to a report released on Tuesday.
This upward trend is anticipated to accelerate, with AI hiring expected to rise by 32 percent annually in 2026, reaching approximately 3.8 lakh roles, as stated in a report by foundit (previously known as Monster APAC & ME).
The job market in India concluded 2025 with renewed optimism, showcasing consistent hiring growth across various sectors, roles, and cities.
Hiring activity increased by 5 percent month-on-month and 15 percent year-on-year, indicating a clear transition from cautious recovery to measured expansion.
As per Tarun Sharma, Chief Product and Technology Officer at foundit, "2025 was marked by both expansion and discipline in hiring."
AI has transitioned from being an experimental concept to a fundamental element in workforce planning. In 2026, hiring will be increasingly focused on skills, targeting mid-career professionals, and spreading across both Tier 1 and emerging Tier 2 talent hubs, he noted.
This synergy between core industries and AI integration will continue to establish India as a global talent hub.
The IT-Software and Services sector claimed the largest share of AI roles at 37 percent, followed by the BFSI sector at 15.8 percent and Manufacturing at 6 percent.
BFSI experienced a remarkable 41 percent year-on-year growth, while other sectors like Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals (38 percent), Retail (31 percent), Logistics (30 percent), and Telecom (29 percent) also reported significant increases, according to the report.
Skills in Generative AI and LLM experienced the fastest growth, with demand surging nearly 60 percent year-on-year, propelled by the rise of copilots, chatbots, and enterprise GenAI platforms.
Bengaluru maintained its dominance with a 26 percent share of AI jobs. Hyderabad exhibited the fastest growth among Tier 1 cities, while Jaipur, Indore, and Mysuru led the gains in Tier 2.
The overall job market in 2025 displayed robust growth within the mid-level and senior mid-tier categories, reflecting employers' focus on professionals with proven execution capabilities, albeit not at the highest leadership levels, according to the report.
