Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) - A significant 90% of professionals across India are gearing up to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in their job search efforts by the year 2026, as per a report released on Thursday.
The findings from the professional networking platform LinkedIn indicate a shift in the role of AI, evolving from merely a productivity tool to a source of confidence for job seekers in India, with 66% believing that AI enhances their interview readiness.
In the context of the growing influence of AI in hiring, the rapidly changing skill sets required for modern jobs, and a job market that is both competitive and selective, 84% of professionals expressed feelings of unpreparedness in their job search, while 72% indicated they are actively looking for new opportunities in 2026.
Although 87% of respondents stated they are comfortable using AI in their workplaces, many harbor doubts about its application in the hiring landscape. Approximately 77% of professionals commented that the hiring process has become overly complex, with 66% finding it increasingly impersonal.
“AI has become a crucial element in shaping careers and evaluating talent in India’s job market. Professionals require a comprehensive understanding of how their skills lead to opportunities and how hiring decisions are formulated,” remarked Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn Career Expert and Senior Managing Editor of LinkedIn India News.
“When intentionally applied, AI tools can help individuals recognize suitable roles, prepare effectively, and concentrate their learning on the most impactful areas. LinkedIn is dedicated to facilitating connections between job seekers and employers,” Banerjee added.
LinkedIn’s data reveals that the number of applicants for each open position in India has more than doubled since early 2022, escalating competition and leaving many job seekers feeling unprepared. Furthermore, nearly 74% of Indian recruiters noted an increase in difficulty over the past year in locating qualified candidates, reshaping career trajectories.
Interestingly, nearly a third (32%) of Gen X job seekers are now contemplating new functions or roles, with 32% of Gen Z exploring opportunities outside their current industries.
LinkedIn’s India Jobs on the Rise report identified roles such as Prompt Engineer, AI Engineer, and Software Engineer as the fastest-growing positions this year, along with robust demand in sales and brand strategy, cybersecurity, and advisory services.
