71 Smart Cities Establish 9,433 Smart Classrooms in 2,398 Government Schools: Study Findings

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) According to a report by IIM Bangalore, among the 100 smart cities evaluated, 71 have created 9,433 smart classrooms in 2,398 government schools so far.

The national report further indicates that the introduction of smart classrooms under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) has resulted in a 22 percent increase in overall student enrolment, based on data collected from 19 cities spanning from 2015-16 to 2023-24.

Moreover, the study highlights that Nagpur experienced a 14 percent reduction in overall crime rates following the implementation of surveillance initiatives.

The report also noted that Chennai and Tumakuru utilized advanced monitoring technologies, merging safety cameras with the Integrated Command and Control Centers (ICCCs) to aid law enforcement in efficiently gathering essential evidence for crime resolution.

The adoption of smart surveillance systems has led to a decrease in harassment, assault, and other criminal activities in areas equipped with enhanced safety measures. Women residing in these three cities have reported a boost in confidence when navigating public spaces.

Across 93 Smart Cities, there are over 59,802 CCTV cameras and emergency call boxes in operation, with the real-time monitoring systems via ICCCs contributing significantly to a safer urban environment for women, as per the report.

Chennai's 'Edge Analytics for Crime Prevention' represents a significant advancement in urban safety for women. The report emphasizes that Smart Lighting and Panic Buttons are instrumental in diminishing crime rates and fostering secure urban environments for women.

IIM Bangalore conducted two studies under the SAAR - Sameeksha Series of Smart Cities Mission (SCM), concluding notable enhancements in educational quality through smart classrooms and real-time tracking of criminal incidents in Indian smart cities.

As of November 2024, 91 percent of the projects under SCM have been successfully completed.

The cities involved in SCM have introduced numerous unique, innovative, and replicable projects/models tailored to meet the local needs of their residents. With the mission approaching its completion, it is crucial to conduct impact assessments and document the unique solutions implemented, as stated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
