73% of E-commerce and Tech Startups in India Anticipate Workforce Growth

Bengaluru, Dec 11 (NationPress) Approximately 73% of e-commerce and technology startups are gearing up for workforce growth, indicating a net employment increase of 8.9%, according to a report released on Wednesday.

This increase is driven by advancements in AI, the emergence of Web 3.0 applications, and the growing adoption of direct-to-consumer (D2C) models, as outlined in the ‘Employment Outlook Report’ for the period from October 2024 to March 2025 by TeamLease Services.

Employee retention has also taken a pivotal role. With 88% of e-commerce companies intensifying their focus on targeted incentives, recognition programs, and career development opportunities, firms are emphasizing a motivated and stable workforce to maintain operations and drive growth.

The report also highlighted the geographical distribution of job creation, with Bengaluru (61%) and Chennai (59%) continuing to dominate, while Pune (21%) is emerging as a rising hub for tech talent.

Furthermore, the report indicated that approximately 89% of e-commerce companies in India have embraced hybrid staffing models, combining permanent and temporary workforces to remain agile amid changing demands.

E-commerce and tech startups in the nation are at the forefront of a workforce transformation, redefining agility and innovation in response to shifting market requirements.

This strategy, along with AI-powered methodologies and a strong emphasis on talent retention, is reshaping the future of work within these sectors.

“The transition towards hybrid staffing models, paired with technological advancements, highlights the resilience and adaptability of e-commerce and tech startups,” stated Balasubramanian A, Senior VP and Business Head at TeamLease.

“As we navigate this transformative phase, prioritizing talent retention, inclusion, and upskilling will be crucial for ongoing growth and innovation,” he added.

The e-commerce sector has been a pioneer, utilizing hybrid staffing to tackle operational challenges.

According to the report, e-commerce companies are implementing real-time inventory management systems, predictive analytics, and automation to enhance supply chains and improve customer experiences.

In contrast, e-commerce and tech startups are harnessing AI-driven customer insights and product innovations, generating demand for specialized roles such as full-stack engineers and cloud architects, which are vital for developing seamless digital ecosystems.
