Guwahati, Nov 9 (NationPress) In a significant achievement towards fulfilling his key pledge of delivering one lakh government jobs, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the BJP-led state administration has successfully appointed 126,793 young individuals to various government positions since taking office.
During a ceremony at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, the Chief Minister officially distributed appointment letters to 5,550 candidates who qualified in the teacher eligibility test for the roles of lower and upper primary teachers.
Among these appointments, 3,800 were designated as lower primary teachers, while 1,750 were appointed as upper primary teachers.
The event also featured the distribution of 8,799 tablets to teachers under the Shikshak Samal Package and the introduction of 4,280 tablets for students through the Aarohan Scheme.
Reflecting on his promise made during the 2021 elections, CM Sarma emphasized that if his party regained power, they would create one lakh government jobs.
"Prior to my tenure, 14 Chief Ministers served Assam, yet none surpassed 25,000 appointments in a single term. Our administration has not only met but has exceeded the one lakh goal, and we are on track to surpass 1.5 lakh soon," he stated.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the ongoing recruitment process is fully transparent and merit-based, effectively eliminating the issues of corruption, nepotism, and political favoritism that marred previous government hiring practices.
"For many years, securing a government job in Assam was synonymous with facing corruption and legal disputes. Today, the youth of Assam trust that they can obtain jobs through merit and diligent effort," asserted CM Sarma, noting the absence of legal challenges or controversies surrounding the recent recruitment initiatives.
Focusing on the government's vision for employment generation, CM Sarma mentioned that in addition to direct government jobs, the administration is promoting self-employment through various welfare and entrepreneurship programs.
He underscored the rapid industrial growth within the state, including projects like the Jagiroad Semiconductor Facility, Numaligarh Bio-Refinery, Chapar Thermal Power Plant, and Namrup Fertiliser Plant, which will generate further opportunities for skilled workers, necessitating well-trained educators.
Reaffirming his dedication to enhancing the education system, the Chief Minister referenced the establishment of 16 new universities, women's colleges in remote areas, and schools in tea garden regions.
He encouraged the newly appointed teachers to embody sincerity, integrity, and dedication in nurturing young minds, stating, "You are the foundation of Assam's future." The event was graced by the presence of Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and other senior officials.
